Una distesa di verde che si perde in lontananza, interrotta solo, qua e là, da termitai che i loro costruttori hanno abbandonato e sono ora tane di manguste, di otocioni o di altri piccoli animali. Un terreno ideale per i ghepardi, velocissimi ma poco resistenti corridori, che hanno bisogno di spazi aperti per lanciare i loro attacchi, ma anche molto insidioso per la presenza di numerosi leoni e soprattutto di iene. In assenza di alberi e di arbusti, in questa parte del Serengeti, è facile individuare le possibili prede. In una pausa della caccia, mentre leoni e iene, a distanza di sicurezza, sono impegnati a contendersi un impala, una femmina di ghepardo e il suo cucciolone giocano a rincorrersi. Una corsa frenetica, pazza, gioiosa e dalla direzione imprevedibile di cui ho cercato di fermare un attimo.
