I made it in the late afternoon: the top of the Matterhorn very illuminated, in full grazing light, below gradually more and more in shadow, not to mention the very small lake enclosed by a belt of fir trees, therefore a clear contrast of light between the two different situations.
I had to manage this critical situation in post by lowering the highlights and opening the shadows, then balancing the colors to obtain this vision.
I thought it would be easier to photograph it!! ;-) :-P

Verissimo quanto dici, anch'io ritrovo quelle caratteristiche che un tempo si ottenevano con quelle pellicole (ho iniziato a fotografare nel '76 ) anche se di fatto scattata con fotocamera digitale.
L'ho realizzata nel tardo pomeriggio: la cima del Cervino illuminatissima, in piena luce radente, sotto via via sempre più in ombra, per non parlare appunto del piccolissimo lago racchiuso da una cinta di abeti, pertanto netto contrasto di luce tra le due diverse situazioni.
Ho dovuto gestire in post questa situazione critica abbassando le alte luci ed aprendo le ombre, poi bilanciando le cromie per ottenere questa visione.
Pensavo fosse più facile fotografarlo!!!
