Il Vari bianconero o Lemure variegato (Varecia variegata) è un grande e chiassoso lemure, scarsamente distribuito nelle foreste pluviali orientali del Madagascar. Predilige la parte alta della chioma degli alberi, dove si muove saltando da un ramo all'atro con precisione sbalorditiva. Prevalentemente frugivoro, è anche considerato il più grande impollinatore del mondo vista la sua predilezione per il nettare dei fiori dell'albero dei viaggiatori (Ravenala madagascariensis), il cui polline si attacca al mantello del lemure e si disperde da un albero all'altro. La popolazione del Vari bianconero si è ridotta di più dell'80% negli ultimi trenta anni e la specie è perciò classificata in pericolo critico (CE) di estinzione nella lista rossa IUCN.
