Islanda :Diamond Beach Il nome deriva dalla grande quantità di piccoli blocchi di ghiaccio di varie dimensioni che si trovano disseminati sulla spiaggia di sabbia nera, di origine vulcanica, che grazie alla sua caratteristica colorazione scura contribuisce ad accentuare il contrasto con questi blocchi di ghiaccio evidenziando riflessi e colori e mostrandoli agli occhi dei visitatori come una distesa di tanti grossi scintillanti diamanti grezzi . Tutto questo è causato dallo scioglimento dei ghiacci che si staccano continuamente dalla lingua di ghiaccio che scende dal versante meridionale del maestoso ghiacciaio Vatnajökull , attualmente il piu' grande ghiacciaio per volume d'Europa, e secondo per estensione . È la quarta massa di ghiaccio al mondo dopo Antartide, Groenlandia e Patagonia .Da qui inizia il percorso degli iceberg che galleggiano sopra la laguna di Jökulsárlón e poi vengono spinti in mare aperto per finire ,spinti dalle correnti sulla spiaggia nera dove, con la continua azione delle onde, vengono poi dolcemente levigati nelle più svariate forme e dimensioni come tante preziose opere d'arte.
