La monumentale fontana della Dea Roma è stata realizzata nel 2003 dallo scultore polacco Igor Mitoraj. L'opera, costituita da più blocchi di travertino con i giunti ben visibili, raffigura un frammento di volto femminile dai lineamenti fortemente idealizzati, segnato da piccole bugne. Il materiale scelto da Mitoraj è quello dei principali monumenti di Roma, città che lo ha ospitato influenzandone fortemente il repertorio formale e culturale. La scultura, posta su finte rocce in travertino, si staglia al centro di una bassa vasca triangolare, secondo una composizione architettonica che insiste sul rapporto tra gli elementi geometrici semplici e la grande testa. L'acqua fuoriesce solcando il malinconico volto di quest'ultima, alludendo al fluire del tempo e della storia, tema caro all'artista. La fontana della Dea Roma funge da baricentro della piccola area verde, dotata di un sistema di percorsi pedonali e luoghi di sosta, disegnati da siepi e bordure a coronamento della vasca. La realizzazione dell'opera è stata anche l'occasione per la riqualificazione dei giardini di Piazza Monte Grappa, in un'area il cui assetto urbanistico è stato tracciato prima nell'ambito dell'Esposizione Universale del 1911 e, successivamente, dalla sistemazione delle aree a giardino operata dall'architetto Raffaele De Vico alla fine degli anni Venti.
