Lo Strillozzo (Emberiza calandra o Miliaria calandraLinnaeus 1758), è un uccello della famiglia degli Emberizidae, che è possibile trovare in tutta Italia, escluse le Alpi.Se ne conoscono quattro sottospecie, in letteratura il nome scientifico può essere Emberiza calandra, o Miliaria calandra, ma si parla sempre dello stesso uccello.Lo strillozzo è di colore marrone, con striature più scure sul dorso, e petto di colore avano. Tra gli zigoli è il più grande, la taglia è di circa 18 cm di lunghezza e quasi 40 grammi di peso. Non c'è un evidente dimorfismo sessuale. Preferisce vivere in ambienti agricoli aperti, ricchi di frutteti. In Italia nidifica tra Aprile ed Agosto, in tutto il territorio escluso le Alpi, al di sopra dei 1000 metri di altitudine, lo si può vedere nei vari periodi dell'anno, in tutto l'Emisfero nord, di Europa, Asia, ed Africa. Come tutti gli zigoli, anche essendo un granivoro, si nutre anche di insetti in primavera quando deve alimentare i pulli con alimenti ricchi di proteine. Caratteristica di questo uccello, come molti altri zigoli, è quello di nidificare nell'erba alta, riesce a completare due cove annuali, l'incubazione è l'involo avviene in un mese di tempo, depone 4 o 5 uova di colore azzurrino con macchie marroni.
