Le Terme di San Candido sono citate a partire dal 1586 come sanatorio e, trasformati in hotel di gran lusso nel XIX secolo hanno goduto di estrema popolarità, ospitando anche l'Imperatore Francesco Giuseppe, fino alla Prima Guerra Mondiale che le distrusse in parte (la linea del fronte passava a poca distanza). Dopo la guerra si cercò di far ritornare all'antico splendore l'hotel ma, anche per la politica fascista fortemente contraria alla cultura e lingua del luogo, nel 1936 l'albergo fu abbandonato ed è gradualmente andato in rovina. Fino a una trentina di anni fa ci si poteva avvicinare e addentrarsi (con un bel po' di rischio….) per le sale, allora ancora affrescate, e per le sontuose scale. Ora, a causa del rischio crolli l'area è stata circondata da una palizzata di legno, molto ben fatta. Il luogo, un tempo era spettrale e si raggiungeva per un sentiero nel bosco. Ora è diventato molto frequentato e si raggiunge facilmente. Agli inizi di novembre, complice una vera e propria bufera di neve ha riacquistato il suo fascino di luogo inquietante che sarebbe l'ambiente ideale per un film horror…
