Come noto, ogni materiale presente sulla Terra ha un suo modo di emettere, riflettere o assorbire luce: questa proprietà dei materiali viene chiamata, dagli esperti, 'firma spettrale'. Allo stesso modo succede per il nostro satellite e, grazie alla tecnica fotografica utilizzata, si riescono a discriminare i minerali presenti sulla sua superficie. I c.d. 'mari', grandi pianure basaltiche formate da antiche eruzioni vulcaniche miliardi di anni fa, sono le aree che presentano maggiori variazioni di colore. Le aree rosse (più antiche), sono povere di ferro, mentre le aree blu (più recenti), rivelano aree ricche di ferro con alto contenuto di titanio. La procedura seguita per ottenere la fotografia della Mineral Moon è stata la seguente. Ho iniziato da un filmato realizzato con Nikon z6II con sopra montato il nuovissimo Nikon z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 vr utilizzato alla massima focale. Ho elaborato con Registax i migliori 750 frames per cercare di tirar fuori al massimo i dettagli della luna e ottenere, quindi, la migliore immagine possibile che ho salvato in Tiff. Con Photoshop ho aumentato gradualmente il contrasto, utilizzando le c.d. 'curve', e poi la vividezza e la saturazione con i relativi slider bilanciando con attenzione i risultati di ciascun cursore per evitare artefatti o eventuali problemi cromatici. Il risultato è quello che vedete … vi assicuro che la procedura è molto più semplice a farsi che a raccontarsi!
