Nella costellazione del Cigno, decisamente quella più dominante del cielo estivo / autunnale, a circa 2400 anni luce da noi, si trova una nebulosa decisamente grossa e luminosa. Essa ha un diametro di 110 anni luce e copre nel cielo un'area molto vasta, in questa foto, frammenti di gas simili a corde si intrecciano e brillano mentre i detriti in rapido movimento, provocati dall'esplosione della supernova, si riversano nei dintorni creando grandi onde d'urto. Solo le stelle più massiccie terminano la loro vita come una supernova e queste esplosioni sono responsabili della creazione di tutti gli elementi chimici presenti in natura. Nella parte finale di questa nebulosa si trova la "nebulosa pipistrello" che, come anche tutto il resto della nebulosa alla quale appartiene, si è formata insieme ad essa. La foto è frutto di una collaborazione tra Pineta1984 e Luca Barcaro (Astrodivers). La foto è un mosaico di varie pose per un totale di circa 23 ore di luce.
