Dopo 42 anni il falco pescatore ha di nuovo nidificato sul suolo italiano (2011). Nel 2002, prese il via il Progetto di ricostituzione di una popolazione nidificante di falco pescatore nel Parco della Maremma, grazie ad una collaborazione con Il Parco Regionale della Corsica. Nel 2006 ha avuto inizio la seconda fase del progetto, con le traslocazioni di giovani individui prelevati dai nidi in Corsica. La prima straordinaria nidificazione nel 2011 nel Parco della Maremma è stata il frutto dell'incontro tra un maschio proveniente dalla Corsica cresciuto ed involato nel parco, e una femmina nata in natura.
