La Serra dell'Argentera, con i 3297 metri della Cima Sud, è l'elevazione maggiore delle Alpi Marittime. È un maestoso complesso di rocce metamorfiche che termina, verso l'alto, con una cresta affilata che si estende per quasi un chilometro, da sud a nord. Come una corona di montagne, compongono la Serra dell'Argentera la Cima Sud, la Cima Nord (3286 m), il Gelas di Lourousa (3261 m) e il Monte Stella (3262 m). Al bordo settentrionale della Serra emerge l'inconfondibile sagoma del Corno Stella (3059 m), un tempo famoso come "rocca inaccessibile", oggi montagna simbolo dell'alpinismo in Marittime.
