Grazie alle conoscenze forestali di un mio amico, ho recentemente scoperto che un'escursione che ho fatto poco tempo fa copre un sito Natura 2000, chiamato "Monte Capra, Monte Tre Abati, Monte Armelio, Sant'Agostino, Lago di Averaldi". Per chi fosse interessato, riporto un estratto dal quadro conoscitivo di questo SIC, pubblicato nel 2018. Descrive in modo abbastanza completo il Lago di Averaldi: "L'area è posizionata sul plateau alla base del versante Sud del Monte S. Agostino, all'interno di una zona depressa, circondata da una fascia boscata. Secondo un sondaggio eseguito al termine della passerella, tra 0 e 50 cm è presente vegetazione flottante, al disotto (fino a 1.5 m, corrispondenti alla massima profondità della trivella a mano) c'è acqua. Lo stato conservativo è considerato buono; si osserva la tipica sequenza vegetazionale delle aree umide. L'area è completamente circondata da una recinzione che impedisce il calpestio ad opera del pascolo o dell'uomo, contribuendo alla preservazione, in alcuni punti tuttavia richiede più manutenzione." A detta del mio amico, questa zona è importante dal punto di vista ecologico in quanto è ricca di endemismi, cioè di specie che si sono evolute proprio in quell'area. Questo (e l'atmosfera surreale che mi ha regalato la zona umida) è il motivo per cui conto di esplorare meglio questa parte della val Trebbia.
