Bayonne non rientrava nel mio itinerario ma dopo 1360 km mia moglie ha pensato bene di fare una sosta e grazie al camper non è stato un problema soggiornare in questa graziosa città. Come ha suggerito Peppe il nome in basco (vasco) è Baiona, Bayonne in francese. Una curiosità storica la riguarda, durante i conflitti sporadici che agitano le campagne francesi alla metà del XVII secolo, i contadini di Bayonne si trovano a corto di polvere da sparo e proiettili. Immettono quindi i loro lunghi coltelli da caccia nelle canne dei loro moschetti, confezionando delle lance improvvisate che verranno quindi chiamate baionette.
