Rinvenuto in Liguria il secondo esemplare in Italia di serpente Coronella a due teste. Si tratta di una Coronella austriaca, un colubride del tutto inoffensivo. Questa specie è ben presente in Vallescrivia, dove Greta, una referente del gruppo zampe libere di cui Ugo de Cresi è coordinatore, ha rinvenuto questo individuo probabilmente appena nato. In passato le cronache riferiscono di un precedente ritrovamento a Prato in Toscana nell'ottobre del 2007, quindi più di quindici anni fa ed anche in quel caso si trattava di una Coronella bicefala. Tornando ancora indietro negli anni occorre andare in Spagna per scoprire che nel 2001 fu scoperto un raro esemplare di Elaphe scalaris trovato da un contadino ad Alicante. L'animale è attivo, ma le funzioni vitali sono ridotte. In via primaria occorre considerare che la sua nascita è avvenuta nel momento in cui le temperature (soprattutto notturne) sono scese di oltre 10 gradi. Successivamente va tenuto conto delle difficoltà che hanno questi individui che nascono con un difetto di generazione gemellare omozigota. Le due teste sono completamente autonome. E' complesso quindi per questo esemplare anche solo decidere quale sia la direzione da prendere. L'organismo respiratorio e digerente è uno solo ma l'impulso di fame arriva a entrambe le teste che talvolta possono attaccarsi. In alcuni casi ad alcuni serpenti in cattività affetti da policefalia è stato necessario coprire una testa per alimentare l'altra ed attendere che l'intestino digerisca la preda per non ingorgare gli stretti apparati intestinali. In Vallescrivia la specie Coronella è ben presente e diffusa così come tutto l'appennino ligure, nelle due distinzioni tassonomiche: “ Coronella girondica” il Colubro di Riccioli, e “Coronella austriaca” il Colubro liscio, vivente in tutta Italia tranne che in Sardegna.
