Nascosto nell'Islanda dell'Est, nella valle Jökuldalur (Valle del Ghiacciaio), si trova un meraviglioso sito naturale del tutto sconosciuto fino a poco tempo fa. Per molto tempo l'acqua del fiume glaciale Jökulsá á Dal/Brú (Jökla) lo ha tenuto nascosto sotto al suo forte e costante flusso, fino a quando è stata costruita una centrale idroelettrica che ne ha drasticamente ridotto il flusso. Il canyon di Stuðlagil, che significa colonne di basalto, è lungo circa 500 metri e presenta colonne di basalto di 20-30 metri su entrambe le sponde del fiume. Lo Studlagil Canyon è sostanzialmente visitabile durante tutto l'anno ma, se volete godere della sua infinita bellezza e ammirarlo nel suo bellissimo color turchese, vi consigliamo di visitarlo in estate.
