Celastrina argiolus (Linné, 1758) - Famiglia Lycaenidae - Sottofamiglia Polyommatinae - Apertura alare: Da 2,2 a 3,2 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutte le regioni, isole comprese. - Habitat: Boschi chiari, ampie radure e cespuglieti, dalla pianura sino a 2000 m. - Periodo di volo: Polivoltina con due o tre generazioni con sfarfallamenti che si sovrappongono da marzo a settembre. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Vari alberi e arbusti tra cui quelli dei generi: Cornus, Frangula, Ulex, Rubus, Arctium, ecc. - Dimorfismo sessuale: Vistoso, con la femmina che presenta una larga banda nera lungo il bordo esterno sul diritto delle ali anteriori. - Variazioni: Gli esemplari di questa specie possono presentare notevoli variazioni nelle dimensioni delle ali con casi di nanismo sia nei maschi che nelle femmine. Alcuni esemplari sul rovescio mostrano la serie di archetti neri premarginali ben sviluppata, in altri casi una riduzione dei punti o trattini neri oppure entrambe le caratteristiche.
