Sabato 13 aprile 2024, 9:47. #Chiesa #Cattedrale #Monumenti #Statua

How did they straighten the sign? :-or

How sad.... A statue that has withstood over 500 years of bad weather and then been damaged by a bombing. War is the worst of the ruins of humanity.

I also wondered how they straightened it, between the late afternoon of day 5 and the morning of the 6th.
I think that someone from the Veneranda Fabbrica, who evidently does not suffer from vertigo and is very brave (by eye we will be 30 meters above the ground), climbed the spire and put the banner in place.

Thank you for the ride and have a nice day.

Looking better at the photos you can see an electrical cable headed to the base of the "spear", probably to discharge static and any lightning.
Perhaps it is relatively easy to rotate the rod from the base.
I have no doubt that an experienced technician can go all the way to the base of the statue. What I wonder is how to do it without damaging the delicate sculptures of the spire.
Unless they have appropriate hydraulic platforms... It would be interesting to deepen.
Thank you for the beautiful photos and for your constant educational effort.

Yes, they have hydraulic platforms.
They have ones like this one, which I photographed on July 26 at 11:04, while it was being carried inside the Duomo through the Main Gate:

Others rent them, as in this case:

Moreover, with an annual budget of 30 million,
https://www.juzaphoto.com/galleria.php?t=4601001&l=it#27357093
certainly does not lack the means.
They may have used one of these to straighten the banner.
Thanks again and hello.

30 million... but look at that combination: it is precisely the equivalent of the amount that Marco Carelli left to the Duomo at his death as his contribution to the erection works.

Obviously before seeing your photo I didn't even know who Marco Carelli was :-D
