Il cotonificio Crespi fu edificato a partire dal 1897 su commissione di un grande imprenditore milanese,Cristoforo Crespi. Restò in funzione sino al 2003 e diede lavoro a 4000 persone .Attorno alla fabbrica fu costruito un intero villaggio che oltre alle abitazioni comprendeva anche le scuole,un ospedale,dei luoghi di svago come per esempio un teatro e persino un cimitero monumentale.
