Lo stretto di Drake è il braccio di mare più tumultuoso al mondo. Oceano Pacifico e Atlantico si incontrano proprio lì e danno origine alle onde più spaventose e pericolose del pianeta. (Se non conoscete la folle odissea dell'esploratore Ernest Shackleton vi invito caldamente ad informarvi. Una storia che cambia le prospettive, che ci invita a dare il giusto peso alle problematiche, più o meno concrete, di una società moderna sempre più debole e svuotata). Qui mi trovavo sulla prua dell'imbarcazione, lontanissimo da qualsiasi terra emersa. In quegli istanti si percepiva solo il suono delle onde che andavano a mescolarsi con qualche anima sospesa a pochi metri dai flutti. A un certo punto incrocio lo sguardo di un albatros, una delle creature volanti più grandi ancora esistenti: è una danza quella che mi sta mostrando, non capisco se sia padrone dei suoi movimenti o se sia il vento a sospingerlo su quella tela. Le acque burrascose lo avvolgono per poi imprigionarlo in un'immagine eterna, che custodirò per sempre. Un attimo, e se quell'albatros non fosse mai esistito...? Forse mi stavo solo specchiando.
