Dopo aver raccolto i fiori di malva, ottimi per gli infusi invernali, ho tagliato le piante secche e ho posizionato i rami vicino alla vecchia capanna, la casa dei gechi. Le notti sono molto umide e piove spesso, un clima non troppo adatto ai gechi, ma nonostante questo molti esemplari escono dalle tane in cerca di cibo. Qualche giorno fa ho incontrato sotto quei rami un bellissimo geco verrucoso, questi rettili amano nascondersi e cacciare tra l'erba alta e i tronchi; mi sono fermato ad osservarlo per più di mezz'ora. Dopo un po' ho una formica si è avvicinata camminando lentamente su uno dei rami, ignara di avere alle spalle questo formidabile predatore notturno. I gechi si nutrono di mosche, ragni, falene e scarafaggi; solo raramente in mancanza di queste prede mangiano le formiche. Questa volta aveva già mangiato e la formica ha potuto proseguire il suo cammino.
