Questa imbarcazione venne costruita nel 1926, su ordine della Società di Navigazione a Vapore sul Lago d'Iseo, dalla Società Anonima Cantieri Cerusa di Voltri. Il nome, La Capitanio, è dovuto alla celebbrazione del centenario della morte e la beatificazione della loverese Bartolomea Capitanio, fondatrice dell'ordine delle suore della carità.
