Hello Mark, excellent macro and super exhaustive caption for this Beetle. When I was young I saw so many now a few years not even one. Congratulations and good evening, hello Fabrizio.

Thank you very much Andrea, Diodato and Fabrizio for the kind comments.
By feeding on roots and leaves, beetles can cause some problems for crops, which is why many farmers often resort to pesticides to eliminate them.
Even here they are becoming increasingly rare, but at least in my land where I have never used pesticides they have an easier life and I have never had problems.
Every year I meet some specimens at night but during the day it happens to me very rarely.
Digging in the ground around the trees I often also see the larvae

Hello Mark, you made a beautiful macro supported by interesting caption. Great. (When I was young in my area in mid-May the Beetles were numerous, at sunset you could observe their flight to the ground, nowadays I struggle to see someone, changing subjects this also applies to bats, swifts, swallows, sparrows and so on ... Progress and climate change are putting many living species in crisis, hopefully well). Hello.

You're right John, and it's a very sad thing!
Luckily I have created an oasis in my land and I am surrounded by nature, so at least I try to get away from all the harm that man is doing to animals.
Beetles can live in peace, bats I often see them at night, as well as fireflies.
Swallows, sparrows, woodpeckers, cuckoos and many other species of birds can nest in trees and houses; their chirping relaxes me and accompanies my days.
