La Sacra di San Michele è un complesso architettonico arroccato sulla vetta del monte Pirchiriano in provincia di Torino, è eretta a metri a 960 metri di altitudine s.l.m. La data di costruzione del complesso vero e proprio viene identificata tra il 983-987, fonti più certe parlano di san Giovanni Vincenzo, l'arcivescovo di Ravenna ritiratosi a una vita eremitica presso queste zone, quindi tra la fine del X e l'inizio dell'XI secolo. Secondo una leggenda, l'ex arcivescovo ebbe la visione dello stesso Arcangelo Michele, che gli ordinò di erigere un santuario. La maggior parte dei lavori di costruzione, che hanno portato il castello ad assumere l'aspetto attuale, ebbero luogo tra il 1320 e il 1421 circa.
