, 1/15 f/11.0, ISO 100, tripod. Specie: Pieris brassicae

Valid shot, rich in details and combined with a colorful background, and equally interesting caption. This year I started meeting these subjects around mid-March (in the Po Valley); I imagine that to have flickering in January you need an even milder climate than the Po Valley.

As always you tell us very interesting things, nice also the quite unusual cut you gave to the shot!

Thank you very much Nicola
Yes, I live in Campania and spring came first this year, even the blooms, some plants have kept the flowers throughout the winter. I had never seen flickering in January.
The fauna boxes I always place covered but outside in order to make the chrysalises perceive the real temperature of the period. I
also did some night patrolling just to understand which species are already active and I saw some moths, but it is still early the nights are cold and humid.
Because of the wind and morning humidity the butterfly could not fly, after photographing it for a few minutes I placed it in the fauna box together with a flower for nectar. In the afternoon with the sun high and the wind less annoying it finally flew. I forgot to write it in the caption, I just added it :-)

Thanks Luigi, I really liked the flowers on the left and the light that slowly entered the undergrowth from above and illuminated the ground. I
was among the trees and I could not move much for lack of space, plus the wind made the butterfly move, and in fact the end of the wing is not in focus. But I'm not a perfectionist and I like the photo anyway :-)

some plants have kept their flowers throughout the winter
I noticed this even in the Po Valley... In the garden I have a vase with an azalea that has bloomed since the beginning of November.

Unfortunately the balance of the seasons is compromised, in winter thunderstorms have increased with me, then from May / June begins a scorching heat that damages crops and animals.
In July and August last year during the day I saw very few animals, butterflies were in serious difficulty and I found some dead from the heat after a few days. At night, fortunately, the temperatures drop and there is a bit of humidity.
I am already preparing waterholes, along with places in the shade are the only help for animals.
