Nei boschi lungo i pendii montuosi ad Est di Kyoto vive un nucleo di macachi giapponesi (Macaca fuscata). A prima vista possono sembrare tranquille, in realtà sono piuttosto diffidenti e irascibili nei confronti degli umani.
