Nella seconda metà del 1900… e per circa 25 anni… i costruttori di veicoli stradali modenesi e non solo… compresa la Ferrari… per provare ed affinare le loro creazioni utilizzavano l' Aerautodromo sito ai margini di Modena che… come dice il nome… veniva utilizzato anche come aeroporto… e pure per competizioni motoristiche sia con motociclette che con automobili. Era stato inaugurato nel 1950 e disponeva di due conformazioni per i mezzi terrestri: una misurante circa 2300 metri mentre l' altra raggiungeva i 3800 metri. A queste due si aggiungeva una pista per il decollo e l'atterraggio degli aeroplani… utilizzata anche a scopo didattico per concedere nuovi brevetti di volo a futuri aeronauti. Con l' espandersi dell' area abitativa della crescente città di Modena… che lo andava inglobando… l' Aerautodromo venne a trovarsi in una posizione sempre più scomoda, disagiata e pure un po' pericolosa così la Ferrai assieme alla Maserati ed alla Automobili Stanguellini chiesero all' amministrazione comunale se si potevano apportare delle modifiche ma tale richiesta non venne tenuta in giusta considerazione così nel 1976 vi si corse un' ultima gara motociclistica poi l' impianto cadde in disuso e rimase per diversi anni in stato di abbandono fino a quando il tutto venne ristrutturato e nel 1991 divenne il Parco Pubblico “Enzo Ferrari”. Poco prima del 1970… vedendo l' evolversi in negativo della situazione Aerautodromo… la Ferrari trovò un terreno disponibile per costruire una pista tutta sua a Fiorano Modenese (Mo) così richiesti… ed ottennuti… i necessari permessi acquistò l' appezzamento ed iniziò a far costruire quello che nel 1972 venne inaugurato con il nome di Circuito di Fiorano. Tale impianto si trova abbastanza vicino ai locali dove ha sede il Reparto Corse della Scuderia Ferrari e pure alla fabbrica dove vengono prodotte le vetture stradali nell' adiacente Comune di Maranello (Mo). La pista ha una lunghezza totale di circa 3000 metri e nel tempo all' intera struttura sono sempre state apportate delle migliorie per renderla più sicura ed adeguata alle nuove esigenze: nel 1995 su consiglio di Michael Schumacher fu modificata la prima curva che si affronta dopo la partenza dai box. All' interno del perimetro… oltre ai box e ad altre strutture destinate ad accogliere le vetture ed il personale addetto durante i test… vi è pure una casa… che fu fatta costruire appositamente da Enzo Ferrari… e che è sempre servita anche da supporto abitativo per chi frequenta il circuito durante le varie sessioni di prove. All' interno di codesta il Grande Enzo vi aveva pure fatto allestire il proprio ufficio personale… che ancora esiste… e che si trova nelle stesse condizioni di come lui lo aveva lasciato nel 1988… anno della sua scomparsa. Enzo Anselmo Giuseppe Maria Ferrari era nato a Modena nel 1898 e nell' ambiente motoristico… nell' arco degli anni… era stato nominato con diversi appellativi fra cui “Il Commendatore”, “Il Grande Vecchio” e pure “Il Drake”… quest' ultimo datogli da alcune scuderie inglesi negli anni '60… dello scorso secolo… quando valutandone l' operato iniziarono a paragonarlo al noto corsaro Francis Drake per come sapeva imporsi e per gli ottimi risultati che otteneva di sovente nelle competizioni pur non potendo effettuare grossi investimenti cosa che invece potevano permettersi altre squadre molto meglio piazzate economicamente. © lucianoserra.d
