Il falco pellegrino (Falco peregrinus Tunstall, 1771) è un uccello rapace della famiglia dei Falconidi diffuso quasi in tutto il mondo: (Europa, Asia, Africa, Nordamerica, Sudamerica e Oceania).[2][3] Nel nome scientifico la parola peregrinus (utilizzata per indicare la specie) fa riferimento alla colorazione scura delle penne del capo, che ricordano un cappuccio nero simile a quello che erano soliti indossare i pellegrini. Il falco pellegrino è noto per l'elevata velocità. Si ritiene possa raggiungere in picchiata una velocità massima di 385 km/h[4] e ciò lo rende l'animale più veloce del pianeta.[5][6
