MAMUTHONES E ISSOHADORES
Mamoiada, nella sua tradizione, vanta un rito estremamente antico che si tramanda di generazione in generazione: quello dei Mamuthones e degli Issohadores. Nati in tempi antichissimi, come attori attivi nei riti pagani, le loro origini si perdono nella notte dei tempi; con il loro fascino e mistero sono sopravvissuti al logorìo del tempo. Il loro rito si manifesta in tutta la sua teatrale spettacolarità, per la prima volta dopo l'arrivo del nuovo anno, in occasione della festa di S.Antonio Abate, che si celebra il 17 gennaio, giornata che sancisce l'inizio del Carnevale Mamoiadino. Le due figure, entrambe di sesso maschile, seppur con abbigliamento diverso e apparentemente in contrasto, di fatto sono complementari, inscindibili e inconfondibili; esse rappresentano infatti l'immagine di un solo gruppo che è stato da sempre considerato dalla comunità locale patrimonio intangibile, unico e inestimabile. Il rituale inizia con la vestizione, che rappresenta la “metamorfosi” degli uomini in Mamuthones e Issohadores, un momento di intensa solennità. La vestizione rappresenta infatti un rito sacro e profano insieme: le varie fasi sono seguite con lo scrupolo e le modalità di una cerimonia religiosa, pagana, in un clima di mistero e suggestioni di tempi passati, ma allo stesso tempo non sono presenti aspetti tipici delle rappresentazioni religiose, quali la presenza di una figura guida che celebra da un altare. Tutti i componenti del gruppo, infatti, seppur con abbigliamento e ruolo distinto, sono alla pari. Il culmine della vestizione si identifica nel momento in cui i Mamuthones e gli Issohadores indossano la maschera, rispettivamente denominata “sa visera” e “sa visera 'e santu”: è a questo punto che i componenti perdono identità e parola e si trasformano in esseri misteriosi. Il Prof. Bachisio Bandinu, noto studioso e antropologo isolano, al riguardo scrisse: “Le citate maschere pongono un'interrogazione perturbante e avviano un'analisi non canonica. Dicono un rito senza messa e senza testo da rappresentare. Negano la relazione con il volto e rifiutano qualsiasi significazione e interpretazione. Intercorre una differenza radicale tra rito come traccia e festa come cerimonia catartica. La maschera-rito è l'esperienza di una metamorfosi, la metamorfosi dice che un uomo diventa animale-dio”. Dopo la vestizione, il gruppo si appresta ad esibirsi in sfilata al pubblico
