La Miniera di San Giorgio risale al 1870 e affascina: una interessante struttura architettonica ospita il pozzo Santa Barbara, ed è nota in Sardegna come Sa Macchina Beccia, la macchina vecchia. Le merlature che adornano questo edificio ricordano un castello medioevale. Dalla ciminiera, simile a una torre, si levava il vapore prodotto dalle grandi motrici per il sollevamento del minerale estratto nel sottosuolo. A realizzare questo edifico storico è stato l'ingegnere Adolfo Pellegrini, fino al 1875 direttore generale delle miniere della Società di Monteponi. Nell'altopiano di San Giorgio sono presenti centinaia di pozzi scavati nel Medioevo dai Pisani e quest'area, chiamata Seddas Is Fossas, rivive nelle descrizioni del Breve di Villa di Chiesa, raccolta di leggi medioevali del periodo pisano e aragonese.
