La Chiesa di Corporeno di Cento (Fe) è intitolata al megalomartire San Giorgio che visse in Asia Minore all' incirca fra il 275 ed il 303. Viene festeggiato dalla Chiesa Cattolica il 23 aprile, mentre la Chiesa Ortodossa lo festeggia il 6 maggio. In Georgia la sua festa è fissata per il 23 novembre mentre nella Chiesa Anglicana tale festività è posticipata di una settimana dopo la Celebrazione della Pasqua. La costruzione della Chiesa di Corporeno viene collocata dopo l' anno 1300… nel XIV secolo... mentre attorno alla metà del 1700 conobbe un' importante opera di restauro. Negli anni '30 dello scorso secolo venne invece sottoposta ad un piccolo ampliamento. Il terremoto del 2012 apportò alcuni cedimenti strutturali che furono poi riparati negli anni seguenti assieme ad alcuni piccoli restauri di parti danneggiate dall' umidità. La pala raffigurante San Giorgio che uccide il drago… visibile in alto dietro all' altare… fu realizzata dal pittore Matteo Loves che ebbe dimora a Cento ancor prima del 1625 e fino attorno al 1647... anno in cui potrebbe essere passato a miglior vita. Di Lui non siamo a conoscenza di date e luoghi certi riguardanti sia la sua nascita… forse in Gran Bretagna ma forse pure a Colonia in Germania… che sulla sua scomparsa. In Cento... ma pure altrove... collaborò attivamente con i pittori Giovanni Francesco Barbieri meglio noto come “Il Guercino” (1591-1666) e con Bartolomeo Gennari (1594- 1661)... figlio dell' omonimo (1563-1610). Sempre nel centese conobbe colei che diventerà la sua sposa lunedì 10 febbraio 1625: Violante Fabri... figlia del nobile Giovanni Domenico Fabri... e con la quale daranno poi la vita a Francesca... la loro figlia primogenita... al cui battesimo partecipò "Il Guercino" in veste di padrino. Sia il matrimonio tra Matteo e Violante... che il battesimo di Francesca avvenuto nel novembre 1625... vennero celebrati nella Chiesa intitolata all'armeno San Biagio (Biagio di Sebaste) sita in Cento. La Parrocchia di San Giorgio a Corporeno fa parte del Vicariato di Cento (Fe) che è compreso nell'Arcidiocesi di Bologna. (c) lucianoserra.d
