Firenze, Museo del Duomo. Settembre 2022. La Maddalena Penitente di Donatello è un'opera della vecchiaia di questo grande protagonista del Rinascimento italiano. Donatello spinge il suo realismo ad indagare le ferite della vecchiaia nella carne umana, in un'iconografia che molto richiama la tradizionale immagine del Battista, coi capelli lunghissimi a sostituire la pelle del leone. E' un'opera piena di pathos che l'ambientazione in una sala piuttosto oscura del museo amplifica non poco. E' una statua quasi vivente che sembra guardarti e comunicare con te: io mi sono commosso nell'ammirarla. Mi piace collegarla alla Maddalena presente nel Compianto sul Cristo morto di Niccolò dell'Arca, a Bologna (non a caso presente in questa mia galleria): due lavori del resto lontani solo pochi anni, che descrivono giovinezza e vecchiaia di questo personaggio così interessante. # jura
