La cittadina di Civita di Bagnoregio si erge su una piccola collina, dominando dall'alto le valli dei due piccoli torrenti Torbido e Chiaro, la caratteristica che salta subito all'occhio osservando la piccola frazione, e per la quale il paese è così famoso in tutto il mondo, è quella di sorgere nella valle dei calanchi e di trovarsi in posizione isolata rispetto al resto degli altri paesi, la ragione è che la collina argillosa sulla quale nasce Civita di Bagnoregio, subisce da secoli una fortissima erosione dovuta ai fenomeni atmosferici, e si sgretola in maniera lenta ed inesorabile, il paese è oggi quasi totalmente disabitato e vi si può accedere solamente per mezzo di una unica strada, realizzata in cemento. La vista dal belvedere, unico punto di partenza per raggiungere a piedi la cittadina di Civita di Bagnoregio, è mozzafiato… una stradina di cemento conduce, salendo verso la fine, ad un borgo da favola che sembra essere sospeso tra una mito e storia, un luogo magico e mistico, case antiche che sorgono attorno alla piazza principale, dove sorge la Chiesa di San Donato, ed altre affacciate verso la valle dei calanchi, donando al visitatore una vista unica nel suo genere, con la sensazione di essere sospesi nel vuoto, sorretti da una qualche misteriosa forza che ancora oggi custodisce questo borgo
