Il villaggio di Uchisar si trova nel punto più elevato della Cappadocia e, a vederlo, è uno spettacolo. (Usato anche da Microsoft per uno dei suoi spettacolari salvaschermo.) A circa 5 chilometri da Goreme, è un'antica città scavata nella roccia. Una sorta di Matera della Turchia. Con il suo enorme picco di tufo perforato dalle mille cavità, è uno dei luoghi più affascinanti che si possano visitare nella terra dei Camini delle fate, Gli Ittiti usavano le grotte nella roccia perforata come rifugio. Grazie alla natura di questo territorio in grado di camuffare pertugi nascosti tra le pareti, anche i Bizantini riuscirono a creare una zona “cuscinetto” per difendersi dalle invasioni islamiche. La ciliegina sulla torta è il suo castello edificato sulla cima della montagna. Un palazzo tufaceo perforato ad arte: una finissima trina di roccia, con le sue cavità e le sue gallerie. Un tempo poteva ospitare fino a mille abitanti. (Scatto eseguito durante il sorvolo in mongolfiera.)
