I Cavallini della Giara (Equus caballus Jarae) o is Cuaddeddus in lingua sarda, sono gli ultimi cavalli selvaggi ancora esistenti in Europa. La loro origine è incerta. Secondo alcuni, discendono da cavalli nord africani introdotti dai Fenici, secondo altri erano in parte già addomesticati in epoca nuragica, in ogni caso sono stati rinvenuti resti fossili databili al 6.000 a. C. Fino al medioevo erano diffusi in buona parte della Sardegna, da almeno due secoli sono presenti solo sull'altopiano della Giara e in pochi altri luoghi, dove sono stati introdotti in piccoli nuclei (Capo Caccia, Foresta Burgos). L'altezza al garrese è circa 1,20 mt., il mantello può essere di colore baio, morello o sauro bruciato, la loro caratteristica tipica è la presenza di tre dita nello zoccolo (anziché due come gli altri). Vivono in piccoli branchi .
