A pochi chilometri da Civita di Bagnoregio, detta anche la città che muore, c'è un borgo bellissimo, che pochi conoscono. È Celleno, un borgo arroccato su uno sperone di tufo nella provincia di Viterbo, non lontano neppure da Orvieto, che molto ha in comune con il più noto borgo laziale, uniti entrambi da un triste destino e da vicende comuni . Celleno fu prima colpito da epidemie, poi da frane, eventi terribili avvenuti in anni non precisati, e infine distrutto da un terremoto nel 1931. Fatto sta che dalla fine del 1800 fu abbandonato. Oggi è considerato un borgo fantasma. Il nuovo borgo di Celleno fu ricostruito non molto lontano negli Anni '30, oggi si contano poco meno di 1500 abitanti. Il borgo abbandonato è ancora un intricato dedalo di viuzze che portano fin su a quel che resta dell'antico castello, dopo aver superato la scenografica via del Ponte, stradine su cui si affacciano piccole case prive d'intonaco e resti di palazzi in pietra di basalto. Il castello ne ha passate di tutti i colori: conobbe le alterne vicende della rivalità tra famiglie di Guelfi e Ghibellini; nel XV secolo divenne possedimento della famiglia Gatti e poi fu un feudo degli Orsini, famiglia dalla quale prende ancora il nome.
