Shah-i-Zinda è una necropoli nella parte nord-est di Samarcanda. Lo Shah-i-Zinda Ensemble include mausolei ed edifici rituali dal 9°-14° e 19° secolo. Il nome di Shah-i-Zinda (che significa "il re vivente") è collegato con la leggenda che Kusam ibn Abbas, cugino del profeta Maometto, fosse venuto a Samarcanda con l'invasione araba nel 7 ° secolo a predicare l'Islam.
