Una di quelle scene che da tanto tempo speravo di fotografare... l'affascinante etologia degli Imenotteri Pompilidae! I Pompilidae cercano attivamente i ragni di alcune specie, li paralizzano con il loro pungiglione velenifero e li portano nei loro nidi, generalmente (ma non sempre) dei cilindri di fango costruiti in precedenza. A questo punto portano all'interno il ragno paralizzato e depongono un piccolo uovo, chiudendo il tutto con un tappo di fango. Alla nascita la larva si nutrirà del ragno, paralizzato e impotente, finché non sarà pronta per la metamorfosi. Non è stato facile realizzare questo scatto... ma osservare la piccola "vespa" trainare con le proprie mandibole il ragno più grosso di lei è stato molto emozionante. Ogni tanto accadeva che incontrando un ostacolo perdesse la presa e volasse via, ma subito dopo tornava in perlustrazione ritrovando sempre il proprio ragno. Nella foto un esemplare di Auplopus sp. mentre prende le misure a una Segestria bavarica.
