Cercavo di capire di che farfalla si tratta, ma non la trovavo nella mia guida. Girando sul web ho visto che è un esemplare di Papilio cresphontes, alias Giant Swallowtail, una farfalla comune del Nord America.
Riguardo la foto, lo sfondo è presente, ma ovviamene con quella lente non potevi sfocare di più, soprattutto a F/14. Io proverei a tagliare a destra, subito dopo quel filo d'erba secco e fuori fuoco. Giocherei inoltre con ombre/luci per attenuare un pò le alte luci sul soggetto. Tra l'altro un pò malandato 
I was trying to figure out what butterfly it is, but could not find it in my guide. Turning on the web I saw that it is a specimen of Giant Swallowtail, Giant Swallowtail alias, a common butterfly in North America.
Regarding the photo, the background is present, but ovviamene with that lens could not blur more, especially to F/14. I would try to cut to the right, immediately after the blade of grass dry and out of focus. Also would play with shadows / lights to mitigate some highlights on the subject. Grazie del passaggio, era più che altro, come ho detto sopra, un test per vedere questo zummone alle prese con un soggetto fuori dal contesto del suo utilizzo. Ho già schiarito selettivamente le ali, ma il problema è decisamente lo sfondo, che non era sufficientemente distanze dal soggetto, con in aggiunta f/14. Credo che con un adeguato sfondo, il risultato sarebbe stato decisamente più accettabile!

Thanks for the ride, it was more than anything else, as I said above, a test to see this zummone struggling with a subject outside the context of its use. I have already cleared selectively wings, but the problem is definitely the background, which was not enough distance from the subject, with the addition of f/14. I believe that with a proper background, the result would have been much more acceptable!

Beh, il soggetto è nitido e ben a fuoco, il problema come evidenziato da te, è lo sfondo. Su quello non potevi farci assolutamente nulla. Una curiosità. Ma nell'oasi di Sant Alessio, ove non sono mai stato, hanno introdotto queste farfalle?

Si c'è addirittura un area/allevamento, ma visti gli orari di apertura e chiusura trovi gli esemplari sempre in attività, offrendo la possibilità di essere ripresi solo con degli zoom o obiettivi macro stabilizzati, quando si posano sui fiori e piante, ma l'uso del cavalletto è davvero improponibile visto anche l'afflusso di gente che ci va, ...ce ne sono davvero tantissime alcune di dimensioni davvero notevoli!

ma nemmeno tanto...direi 8/10 cm in totale dalle punte estreme delle ali. Cerano esemplari davvero giganti! Se ci fai un giro un giorno, con magari un bel medio tele nitido e stabilizzato, ti diverti un mondo!

Beh provare, potrebbe anche essere divertente! Diciamo che mi ha aiutato molto lo stabilizzatore del sigma. Non si otterranno mai degli scatti fatti con un macro, ma qualcosa di decente si potrebbe anche portare a casa.

Io passando in mezzo alla zona farfalle, come altri fotografi, mi son dilettato più che altro, per divertimento/curiosità, non sono andato a S. Alessio con l'intento di fotografare farfalle...ma tanto che ero li, qualche scatto lo ho fatto!
I'm passing in the middle of the area butterflies, like other photographers, I have delighted more than anything else, for fun / curiosity, I did not go to St. Alessio with the intention of photographing butterflies ... but so much so that I was there, a few shots I did it! :-) Io passando in mezzo alla zona farfalle, come altri fotografi, mi son dilettato più che altro, per divertimento/curiosità, non sono andato a S. E' possibile fotografarle comodamente se arrivi all' ora di apertura e se ti dirigi subito alla Butterfly garden che tra l'alto é vicina all'entrata. A quell'ora sono ancora abbastanza addormentate e non si muovono molto e poi non c'è quasi nessuno...dopo è un delirio come diceva Ringhjos!!!
Se non sbaglio ho postato nella mia galleria "macro con lenti addizionali" una foto dell' accoppiamento proprio di questo tipo di farfalla.

Hello! I went often to the Oasis and I photographed the butterflies with a tripod and additional lenses (I am waiting for the arrival of macro ordered!). And 'possible to photograph them comfortably if you arrive at' opening hour and if you head immediately to the Butterfly garden which is among the top near the entrance. At that time are still quite sleepy and do not move much and then there is almost no ... after a frenzy as he said Ringhjos!
If I'm not mistaken I posted in my gallery "macro with additional lenses" a picture of 'coupling precisely this type of butterfly.

L'orario migliore è sicuramente di buon mattino e la sera tardi. Diciamo che è quasi una regola in quanto sono gli orari in cui il movimenti di tali soggetti è ridotto al minimo.
Esiste un luogo simile anche a pochi km da qui, ma è dedicato esclusivamente alle farfalle, con tante specie tropicali.

The best time is definitely early in the morning and late at night. We say it is almost a rule in that they are the times at which the movements of these subjects is minimized.
There is also a similar place a few miles from here, but it is exclusively dedicated to butterflies, with many tropical species.
