Plaza de La Catedral è la più uniforme tra le principali quattro coloniali di L'Avana Vieja. Questa piazza è un autentico museo del barocco, in quanto tutti gli edifici che si vi trovano, inclusa La Catedral, risalgono al XVIII secolo. In questa piazza confluiscono le vie Empedrado e San Ignacio. Una statua di Antonio Gades, un ballerino spagnolo di flamenco sotto le arcate del XVII secolo il Palacio del Marques de Arcos o Conde de Lombillo, un lungo arco dell'alto edificio in Plaza de la Catedral. Molto vicino alla piazza si trova La Bodeguita del Medio, la taverna-ristorante più famosa di tutta Cuba.

Il Palacio del Conde de Lombillo e il suo porticato.

Il Palacio del Conde de Lombillo (Palazzo del Conte di Lombillo) si trova esattamente a fianco della Cattedrale di San Cristóbal de La Habana, a L'Habana Vieja , completando il meraviglioso complesso di edifici coloniali situato in Plaza de La Catedral. È una grande casa in stile tipicamente coloniale dove abitarono i discendenti dei primi colonizzatori dell'Habana. Il Palacio de los Marqueses de Aguas Claras

Il Palacio de los Marqueses de Aguas Claras (Palazzo dei Marchesi di Aguas Claras) si trova nel lato occidentale di Plaza de la Catedral, la cui costruzione terminò nel 1760. In quest'edificio spicca la grande bellezza del suo tetro cortile in stile andaluso, dove risaltano i toni verdi della rigogliosa vegetazione tropicale, al cui interno si trova una sorgente dove abitano diverse tartarughe.

Questo palazzo in stile barocco fu la sede del Banco Industrial prima della Rivoluzione Cubana e, attualmente, ospita al suo interno il Restaurante El Patio, specializzato nella cucina cubana e nella preparazione di incredibili cocktail.

Questa piazza è la più recente tra le quattro principali della città e il suo tracciato attuale risale all'anno 1700. Alla fine del XVI secolo questo luogo era uno spazio paludoso, per questo motivo prende il nome di La Ciénaga, la palude. Fino a questa zona, arrivava la Zanja Real, un canale aperto che forniva d'acqua la città, ma con le opere di costruzione dei dintorni della zona si seccò e successivamente, nel luogo occupato prima dal fiume, vi si costruì la piazza.
