Questo ponte l'ho trascorso dopo molti anni nella splendida, profumata e da me amata Provenza, in particolare nella Camrgue. Questa è una mia interpretazione delle enormi Saline di Giroud riprese poco dopo l'alba. Salin-de-Giraud è una località del comune francese di Arles, in Provenza, e si trova all'interno del Parco della Camargue. Le saline della Camargue si trovano lungo alcuni percorsi escursionistici proposti, ma non sono mai molto affollate. Il colore dell' acqua delle saline dipende dalla presenza della microscopica alga Dunaniella salina, la stessa che, nel suo viaggio lungo la catena alimentare, colora anche i gamberetti e i fenicotteri rosa che se ne nutrono. A Salin-de-Giraud da marzo ad agosto le paratie fra i vari bacini d' acqua vengono aperte per favorire l' aumento del naturale grado di salinità. L' acqua evapora gradualmente grazie all' azione del vento e del sole, fino a diminuire del 90% e lasciando una altissima concentrazione di sale. E' in questo momento che entra in gioco Dunaliella salina, presente in queste acque ed adatta a vivere anche in condizioni estreme come l'altissima concentrazione di sale di questi ambienti. Quest' alga ha la particolarità di produrre carotenoidi per difendersi proprio dal sale, colorando l' acqua di sfumature che vanno dal rosso, al rosa fino al violetto. Quindi man mano che la concentrazione di sale aumenta nei bacini, questi si colorano sempre più intensamente. Buona visione
