Torre Faro è una frazione del comune di Messina , situata sulla punta nord-est della Sicilia , al confine tra mar Tirreno e mar Ionio , nel punto in cui lo stretto raggiunge il minimo della sua ampiezza , 3.6 km. Il Pilone , che costituisce un importante esempio di archeologia industriale , è un traliccio d'acciaio alto 235 metri ora in disuso ; fu progettato e costruito tra il 1948 ed il 1955 e sosteneva i cavi della linea che portava l' elettricità dal continente alla Sicilia . Nel 1994 si è optato per la loro rimozione e sostituzione con più moderni cavi sottomarini . Oggi il pilone , messo in sicurezza , resta una fonte di attrazione turistica , particolarmente suggestiva di notte quando la struttura d'acciaio riflette le luci poste alla base e si staglia come un cono luminoso emergente dalle acque scure dello stretto . #ArcheologiaIndustriale #BiancoeNero #BlackAndWhite
