Il motore di questa A6 GCS (Alfieri Maserati 6 cilindri in linea Ghisa Corsa Sport) "Monofaro"... conosciuta anche come Maserati 2000 Sport... fu inizialmente utilizzato sulle vetture stradali ma poi vedendone le prestazioni... che furono in seguito ulteriormente potenziate... venne adottato per le competizioni. Aveva una cilindrata di 1978 cm3 e poteva erogare fino a 130 cavalli di potenza che in alcune preparazioni portavano la vettura a sfiorare i 210 chilometri orari di velocità massima. Mentre la carrozzeria della vettura in versione stradale era del tipo Coupé... per la A6 GCS si optò per una carrozzeria più leggera del tipo a Barchetta... e pure detta a Siluro o anche a Parafango da Bicicletta... e che non disponeva di alcun tipo di protezione superiore per l'abitacolo... sempre per mantenere basso il peso totale della vettura. Tale carrozzeria era stata creata per le Officine Maserati dall' ingegnere Medardo Fantuzzi ed in origine disponeva solo del faro anteriore montato al centro della calandra. Tutte le vetture prodotte... poco più di una dozzina (forse 15)... furono allestite su precise richieste dei clienti e così non ve ne sono due completamente uguali. Alcune disponevano di lubrificazione a carter secco mentre solo una... forse l'ultima prodotta... era dotata di una testata dotata di 4 valvole per ogni cilindro. Questa "Monofaro" venne portata in gara fino al 1961 cogliendo moltissimi successi e fra i piloti che la hanno condotta possiamo ricordare Alberto Ascari, Luigi "Gigi" Villoresi e pure Maria Teresa de Filippis. Questa immagine venne scattata notte tempo con l'utilizzo di un flash Metz 45 CT-1 durante il transito della 1° tappa della 1000 Miglia rievocativa edizione 2010.
