La chiesa del SS. Crocifisso del Monte, conosciuta come“Crucifissu te'u feu” è un piccolo gioiello della cultura contadina che sorge da secoli in agro di Gallipoli. Le informazioni storiche, ad oggi, sono lacunose ma non assenti. Da una visita pastorale del vescovo Filomarini del 1714 si apprende che proprio in quel periodo la struttura passa dall'essere “piccola cappella” al rango di “chiesa vera e propria” Una tradizione centenaria lega le festività pasquali ad un'antica comunità contadina e ad un luogo magico del Salento dove sembra che il tempo si sia fermato: SS. Crocifisso Del Monte. Secondo questa antichissima consuetudine gruppi di famiglie si incontravano nei pressi della chiesetta denominata “del Crocifisso” dove partecipavano alla funzione religiosa domenicale, continuando i festeggiamenti della Santa Pasqua alcune settimane dopo la chiusura delle festività canoniche.
