Il nome è legato alla Regina Giovanna D'Angiò, sovrana di Napoli. Di lei si narra che tra il 1371 e il 1435, venisse in villeggiatura al mare accompagnata dai suoi giovani amanti con cui era solita intrattenersi durante il bagno in queste acque. Da qui l'origine del nome "Bagni della Regina Giovanna." Una strada panoramica, incorniciata da un'enorme scogliera e dai resti di un antica villa romana, conduce ad un meraviglioso arco naturale sul mare. La villa conosciuta con il nome di "Villa Pollio Felice" risale al I° sec. a.C. ed è divisa in due parti: la villa, immersa nei campi e il domus marittima. Collegati entrambi da cunicoli e scale.
