Lungo il corso dei torrenti si trovano i resti di vecchi molini, come il Molino dei Cognassi. Il molino era un luogo d'incontri, perché vi s'incontravano persone di paesi diversi che, attendendo il loro turno per poter macinare, chiacchieravano scambiandosi idee, novità e a volte concludevano affari, vendendo animali, attrezzi da lavoro, qualche pezzo di terra. Il Molino dei Cognassi si trova lungo il fosso del Freddo o “delle Cascine”, fra le frazioni di Valformosa e Bralello. Questo molino è di proprietà della famiglia Alpegiani da generazioni, è stato comprato verso la fine dell'800 dal nonno Luigi, il primo mugnaio, dopo di lui ci hanno lavorato i figli Dionigi e Domenico. Il Molino dei Cognassi era una struttura in pietra a vista con una cascina e una stalla, con davanti un grande prato. La caratteristica di questo molino era la ruota molto stretta e alta quasi dieci metri, ancora oggi ben visibile; questa ruota girava grazie alla spinta dell'acqua del Fosso del Freddo che nasce a Cima Colletta, per poi confluire nel Fosso Montagnola e quindi sfociare, nel Torrente Staffora vicino a Fego. In questo molino si macinavano grano, mais e castagne, portate dagli agricoltori delle frazioni vicine: Valformosa, Barostro, Bocco, Cencerate, Casale Staffora, Feligara, Casone, Somegli, Corbesassi, Brallo e anche Dezza (che è in provincia di Piacenza). Una volta macinati, i prodotti venivano portati dai due fratelli (figli di Luigi) con muli o asini a casa dei proprietari dei terreni. Questo molino è rimasto in funzione fino al 1960 quando è sorto a Brallo il primo molino a cilindri.
