Sono più di 7000 i nuraghi presenti ancora oggi in Sardegna. I nuraghi costituiscono la traccia importante della civiltà sarda antica di migliaia di anni. I Nuraghi (da Nur = mucchio di pietre, mucchio cavo), sono costruzioni di pietra a forma tronco conica uniche in tutto il mondo, sono in pratica castelli che anticipano i castelli medievali e li anticipano di 2600 anni. Si distinguono tra protonuraghi, o nuraghi a corridoio, e i più numerosi nuraghi a tholos, a tronco di cono con all'interno camere circolari, nicchie, silos. Le mura arrivano anche a 4 metri di larghezza, e possono raggiungere un'altezza di più di 25 metri. La funzione dei nuraghi non è ancora ben chiara: ruolo militare, di difesa o come torri di vedetta, funzione votiva e religiosa, osservatori astronomici. Tra i nuraghi meglio conservati non si può non menzionare il Nuraxi di Barumini, che a Napoli nel dicembre 1997, venne definito Patrimonio dell'Umanità dal Comitato del Patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO. --------------- I Nuraghi sono la nostra anima, tanti popoli approfittarono della decadenza del popolo sardo dopo l'improvviso tracollo della civiltà nuragica della quale non si conosce ancora la causa, invasero a più riprese la Sardegna, ma nessun invasore si impadronì del nostro cuore, ci bastava alzare lo sguardo per vedere la nostra anima i nuraghi che svettavano invincibili e ci mantenevano liberi. I nuraghi ci ricordano chi eravamo ci ricordano i tempi felici di quando camminavamo liberi sulla terra senza calpestarla e non abbiamo dimenticato mai e non dimenticheremo mai chi siamo. --------------- Per approfondire un po' --- Oggi siamo un popolo povero che vive di assistenzialismo turismo in mano a pochi (multinazionali) un po' di pastorizia e agricoltura senza giovani che appena possono vanno via ma .... Quando nei territori dell'attuale Lombardia gli uomini vivevano ancora di caccia e di raccolta e abitavano nelle palafitte, mille anni prima che le imbarcazioni dei Greci solcassero il Mediterraneo, la Sardegna contava già migliaia di nuraghi. Ma perché questi enormi edifici fortificati spuntavano come funghi su coste, pianure, montagne e vie di comunicazione? A determinare la nascita della Civiltà nuragica fu la ricchezza proveniente dalla commercializzazione dell'argento, del rame e del bronzo. Le navicelle in bronzo, che riproducevano le vere imbarcazioni sarde, insieme alle evidenze archeologiche testimoniano forti legami con la Civiltà micenea, la Spagna, l'Italia, con Cipro, il Vicino Oriente e perfino la Bulgaria. Lo sviluppo economico della Sardegna era il più importante di tutto l'Occidente mediterraneo di allora. Ceramiche askoidi, anfore, tripodi e spade di tipo nuragico sono state trovate oltre lo stretto di Gibilterra, a Huelva, Tarragona, Malaga, Teruel e Cadice. Grazie alle relazioni commerciali con altri popoli, i Nuragici avevano a disposizione un ampio ventaglio di merci e prodotti e nel contempo arricchivano il loro patrimonio culturale. Oltre che dall'abbondanza di cibo, il benessere era testimoniato dalle ceramiche, dagli oggetti di uso quotidiano e dai gioielli di pregevole fattura. In tutti i territori dell'isola vi era grande disponibilità dei prodotti di base per l'abbigliamento e oltre alla lana di capre e pecore, si utilizzavano lino, pelle, cuoio, cui si aggiungevano i tessuti più pregiati quali il bisso e la porpora.
