Si tratta di una farfalla abbastanza rara e localizzata in quanto è strettamente legata alla pianta nutrice dei bruchi (Aristolochia Rotunda o Aristolochia Pallida) ed ha scarse capacità di volo. Se in un sito dove sono presenti le piante nutrici si estingue, difficilmente potrà tornare a colonizzare la zona. Per questi motivi e non solo, la specie è protetta, a livello europeo, dalla Direttiva Habitat 92/43/CEE, Allegato IV (specie animali e vegetali di interesse comunitario che richiedono una protezione rigorosa).
Inoltre è univoltina (una sola generazione di adulti all'anno) e quindi è visibile in una stagione di volo molto breve ad inizio primavera.

Tutto sommato non mi sembra di aver lasciato poco spazio davanti agli occhi della Zerynthia, forse una leggera rotazione sarebbe stata meglio a livello compositivo.
