La nebulosa civetta, successivamente chiamata anche gufo per quelle due parti scure che all'astronomo irlandese William Parson ricordavano gli occhi del rapace (?!?) sono i resti relativamente giovani dell'esplosione di una stella avvenuta circa 6000 anni fa, mentre la sua vicina galassia Surfboard prende il nome dall'aspetto che ricorda quello di una tavola da surf... gli astronomi hanno proprio una fervida fantasia! :)
