Non una scelta casuale per un quartiere che di quella pellicola cinematografica, dopo oltre 70 anni, ancora ne va fiero: è proprio infatti tra i palazzoni di Valmelaina, in particolare tra via Gran Paradiso e via Scarpanto, che De Sica girò alcune scene. Dal 2014 a ricordare quella zona popolare trasformata in set cinematografico e protagonista di uno dei film più amati di sempre c'è anche una targa apposta dai cittadini e dal mensile locale La Quarta
