L'edificio del forno crematorio e la connessa ciminiera vennero distrutti con la dinamite dai nazisti in fuga, nella notte tra il 29 e il 30 aprile 1945, per eliminare le prove dei loro crimini, secondo la prassi seguita in altri campi al momento del loro abbandono. Tra le macerie furono rinvenute ossa e ceneri umane raccolte in tre sacchi di carta, di quelli usati per il cemento. L'impianto, al quale si accedeva scendendo una scala, era interrato. Una canale sotterraneo, il cui percorso è pure segnato dalla piastra d'acciaio, univa il forno alla ciminiera. Sull'impronta metallica della ciminiera sorge oggi una simbolica Pietà costituita da tre profilati metallici a segno della spirale di fumo che usciva dal camino.
